1975 914 2.0L

I bought the car in July 2001 in Vancouver, British Columbia and drove home to Halifax, Nova Scotia. The car was filled with camping gear, clothes, air conditioning system, tools, and manuals. It took about 10 days to cross the country. Many stops along the way, visiting Whistler, Drumheller, Banff, and many other places of interest. The following summer the trip continued to St.John's, Newfoundland, thus the first two pictures below. Have a look in an atlas to see the distance covered!

The car had been fully dismantled and rebuilt in the early '80s. It was simply immaculate and spotless. I searched for rust and was unable to find anything. Battery tray is perfect, and undercoating better than factory. All suspension parts, engine casing, and transmission casing, hinges, etc have been plated before being rebuilt and installed. It has a 2.0 liter engine, and full appearance and performance option packages, including sway bars front and rear and Fuch alloy rims including the spare.

The drive home was not without incident. The ignition system began to fail and the fuel injection system wasn't working properly. We were only able to drive about 200 miles per tank of gas - only about 12 miles per gallon. After installing a Crane XR700 ignition module, replacing all hoses, manifold pressure sensor, and injector trigger points the car came back to life. Unfortunately with the engine producing proper power the clutch began to slip and needed to be replaced. There are still projects I'd like to see done. I have a Crane HI-6 multi spark ignition system and 140 pound rear springs to install. Also like to replace the exhaust system with pre 1975 heat exchangers and muffler.

The front air dam has since been repaired and installed. When weather permits I'll be taking new pictures with it in place.

Like any older car it requires constant attention, but that's part of the fun and charm of owning one. If you can't fix a car like this yourself you shouldn't consider getting it.

The last four pics were taken following a snow storm. The roads were cleared so I took the car for a ride. There is no salt used on roads in the neighbourhood due to everyone having wells for drinking water. It didn't venture onto the main roads.

For my birthday in Sept '03, Cheryl and Sarah decided to make a special birthday cake. They visited the garage to see how the car fit together, find shapes for the signal lights, and see how the windshield wipers fit. It was fun seeing what they had created and it tasted great! Some have commented about the oil stains under the car, but it's just chocolate - really.

I purchased this car on 10 April 2004. It is a '74 914 with 2.0L engine. I'm hoping to have it trailered to Halifax next summer. It has a wealth of spare parts including center console, heated rear window, relays and so on. The engine appears complete with fuel injection, glass is very good, interior in good shape other than sun fade. It has rotted far too badly to restore.

My first 914 was totalled. Here are some pictures.
