E-Motion at Mosport!

At the Watkins Glen club race many people asked me if I was going to the Mosport club race. My initial reaction was no, it's too far away from me. Mosport, located in Bowmanville Ontario (Canada) is about 600 miles from my house. That is just too far to tow the rig for a weekend of racing. However, I kept hearing what a great event it is, how I shouldn't miss it, etc. Well, I like to drive at new tracks, I don't have any events planned for some time, how can I get the car there?

Enter Metro Track chair Andy Spray. Andy started a new business transporting cars to track events. His transporter is giant, it holds six cars plus gear. He has a nice awning, provides breakfast and lunch, and, best of all, I don't have to drive it! The only problem was price, it was too high for me to justify to do the race. When my friend Henry heard that I was thinking about doing the race, he made me a nice proposition. If I let him drive my car for the driver ed part of the event (the Mosport race weekend includes three race groups and one advanced driver ed group), he would split the transport costs with me.  Hmmm, this might just work. I was able to cash in frequent flier miles for the flights, so this race should end up costing about the same as any other race! OK, I'm in!

The car is ready to go, it ran great at WGI. The only work I need to do is swap seats. Henry is a lot bigger than I am, and there is no way he will fit in my seat. So we swapped my seat out for a larger one. I can drive with pillows behind my back (I'll put my seat back in for the race).  On Friday, July 29, Henry followed me over to the shop where I dropped the Porsche off. The transporter leaves 7/31, and it will have my car, two sets of wheels, and all my gear. I fly to Toronto thursday evening, drive Friday, race Saturday, and fly home Sunday. For one race I will pretend to be a rich "arrive and drive" racer.

Should be fun, stay tuned for the race story.
