Directions to the Ramble at Fairfield Bay:

Without many stops, this is a 5.5 hour drive from Greenville, TX. (4.0 to Little Rock and 1.5 to Fairfield Bay)

Proceed on I-30 East towards Texarkana.  Exit 208 is a good place to stop for a break.  Easy off, easy on.  The Total station and the place across the street from it, have the lowest gas prices anywhere along the entire route ($1.30 yesterday).  There is also a Dairy Queen here.

Continue on I-30 East towards Little Rock.  Tourist information and free highway maps are available at the first rest stop over the Arkansas State line.  There is some construction along this stretch of the route.  Even where there is not construction, there should be.  The concrete pavement is segmented, and depending on your suspension set-up, can make your car want to jump straight up in the air.  The left lane is much better than the right lane.

If you forgot to bring beer or your favorite libation, the last convenient place to stop is exit 126, "County Line Road".  Stay on the service road and pull into "The Red Gate Liquor Store".  Again, easy off, easy on!

Exit off I-30 onto loop 430 North (exit 129).  Proceed on 430 for 13 miles, until you reach I-40.  Enjoy the River vista.

Take I-40 West towards Fort Smith.  Proceed on I-40 for 21 miles to Conway.

Exit on to Hwy 65 (not business 65).  Proceed North (right) on Hwy 65 for 38 miles to Clinton.  Beware of speed traps in small towns especially in Greenbriar and Damascus!  Check out the tube frame race car manufacturer on your left going through Greenbriar.

Proceed through Clinton, past the Walmart on the right.

Take a right onto Hwy 16.  Proceed on Hwy 16 for 10 miles to Shirley (this road was made for 914s).

Hwy 16 takes a hard right in Shirley at the Gas Station.  Continue on Hwy 16 for 5 more miles to Fairfield Bay.

Turn right into the main Entrance to Fairfield Bay, Dave Creek Parkway.  Enjoy your first trip down Roller Coaster Hill !

The Conference Center check-in will be on your right.

A "come and go" reception will be held Thursday evening at my Dad's house starting at 6:00 p.m.

Directions to John and Fredda Swanson's House:

Take Dave Creek Pkwy back out to Hwy 16.
Turn right on Hwy 16.  Proceed 1.0 mile to Oak Ridge Drive.  There will also be a sign for the Indian Hills Country Club on your right.
Turn left onto Oak Ridge Drive.  This road quickly turns to gravel, so drive slow to protect your 914's body work.
Proceed 0.5 mile until you see a drive way on your left, leading up a steep hill.
Please park on the side of the gravel road and walk up the hill.

John Swanson's Phone number: 501-723-4970

Have a safe and fun drive.  I look forward to seeing all of you at the reception.  Please pass this on to anyone else coming.
